Bio: I am a middle school teacher of the Deaf and hard of hearing. I currently teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in both a self-contained and a resource environment. For my self-contained students, I teach all core content subjects: math, science, social studies, and English Language Arts. My resource students might just see me for tutorial or they might have me for ELA and tutorial. All of my students use Cued Speech to communicate, which is a change for me, since I came from a district in which students were either completely aural/oral or they used American Sign Language. This is my fourth year of teaching, but it is only my second year having a classroom. Prior to coming to this district, I was the coordinator of hearing services and itinerant teacher of the Deaf at a rural district. I taught at 27 different schools a week in grades PK-12 providing indirect consultation, direct pull-out instruction, and after-school activities for all the Deaf and hard of hearing students in the district. I also provided training for the sign language interpreters. I now work with the 5 Cued Speech transliterators at my current school. I am certified to teach elementary education and special education of the Deaf. I just finished my M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on English language development. I did my B.A. in both English Literature and Special Education for the Deaf.
